Frank is proud Headmaster at Molere Primary School, which is situated high up in the mountains, in the remote village of Molere in Thyolo, Malawi.
Previously, the school had very limited hygiene and sanitation facilities. Many of the female students would not attend school during their periods – often being absent for as much as five days a month – which greatly affected their studies.
Thanks to support from our partner The One Foundation, a new toilet block was constructed, consisting of six latrines and a menstrual hygiene-changing unit.
With over 1400 children attending Molere Primary School, the arrival of the new toilet block made a huge difference to the wellbeing of the pupils and to their attendance, as Frank explains:
“This has made such a difference to our school. Before the construction of the toilet block we saw so many girls drop out of school while on their periods”.
He adds:
“Girls are performing so well now that they are able to attend classes, they can learn without any problems. Before the construction of the toilet block, up to 20% of girls would be absent from school while on their cycle, this has now reduced to 5%. Your support is helping to improve the standard of education for girls and we thank you for that”.
