We have been deeply shocked and saddened at the situation that is unfolding in Ukraine. We know the importance of water, sanitation and hygiene provision in humanitarian situations and how critical it is to reduce health risks and to provide disaster-affected populations with dignity and protection.

Initial assessments have shown that the escalation of violence in Ukraine will affect WASH infrastructures and systems. This will result in an increasing number of people running out of water and adequate provisions. Support in hygiene promotion and emergency sanitation services will become essential, as well as targeted water supply repairs. Solid waste management will also be needed.
